A unique opportunity has arisen for a Group Legal Counsel to take responsibility for legal advice to a growing shipping business. You will work closely with senior management undertaking an interesting and varied caseload.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Advise the business on a broad range of legal, compliance and regulatory issues, developing processes and procedures across a number of business divisions
  • Advice on and drafting a range of contracts including bill of lading, charterparty, cargo and ship purchase agreements as well as more general commercial contracts as needed
  • Oversee regulatory and compliance matters, in regard to ship owning, services and insurance products, affecting the business globally
  • Support the development and implementation of internal policies and procedures, rolling them out throughout the business
  • Oversee external legal advisors
  • Conduct risk assessments
  • Oversee legal training and development programmes for the Group

We are looking for:

 

  • A UK qualified lawyer with at least two years’ experience * advising on shipping law, trained either with a well-regarded law firm or in-house
  • Must have experience of drafting and advising on shipping and other commercial contracts
  • Creative approach to problem solving
  • Self-motivation with an ability to work under pressure
  • Good judgement and decision-making skills, with an understanding of the impact on stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
